Reading Time: 8 Minutes
“The biggest step you take isn’t a grand result, it’s making the decision to start. Every time you put something into practice to improve your health you are reinforcing that decision & creating a strong foundation.”
You don’t need to buy anything.
Many of the things marketed to us are “nice to haves” but we don’t need them. They can be complementary to our health journey yes, but if the basics aren’t being observed & your foundation isn’t strong there is no equipment or supplement that is going to do that for you.
Things like Oura rings, Vibration Plates, Red lights, CGM’s, smart scales can all be helpful tools (under the right circumstances) but again, we do not NEED them to get started or in order to get healthy. What we should be focused on is learning how our unique body works & listening to it.
It doesnt mean that these tools don’t have a place or purpose however, they are not for everyone & may end up contributing more anxiety & stress to an already overloaded system.
It doesn’t have to be complicated.
You don’t need a 64 step routine. Focus on 3-5 actions you can take & do them consistently. This will provide better results & be less stressful.
“Be consistent & evaluate consistently.”
Consistency is key, BUT it has to work for you. We are constantly bombarded with conflicting advice about the “right/wrong way” to eat, exercise, & take care of our health etc. There is no right or wrong way to take care of your health, the best way is what works for you, actually improves your health & takes your unique needs into consideration.
“There are multitudes of ways that you can improve your health without taking on every trend & fad out there. Does it work into your schedule? Do you feel good about it? Are you able to keep up with it & maintain your sanity? Are you giving up parts of your life you love because of it? It is causing stress? It’s important to evaluate how & if it’s actually fitting into your life.”
This doesn’t mean that challenge isn’t good, it means that what is challenging will evolve. How you take care of your health will evolve. At some point in life we may appreciate a more rigid, structured path at other times we need softness, flexibility. Those needs are what a lot of mainstream information leaves out.
“Be picky about whose influence you let guide you throughout your health journey.”
When everyone is an expert, no one is an expert. Remember at the end of the day you are in your body, you know what you are feeling. It’s important that you learn for yourself how to tune into that, independent of anyone else.
Choose 1-3 sources at a given time to guide you on your health journey, otherwise you will be tossed to & fro like a stranded boat in a storm.
You can always change the sources, there are thousands of credible health resources & practitioners out there but if you invite in that many different sources you will end up overwhelmed. This may look like 1-3 healthcare providers in person, online or a mix of both. Max 3 not 700. Less is more in this area. You can always decide to make it completely your own & tap into your intuition.
Focus on improving 4 foundational aspects of your health & see how good you can feel in your body.
Sleep, nutrition, movement, stress management. Sounds simple right? These are the basics of health that need a strong foundation in order for you to take care of yourself. You can start improving in each one of these areas with very simple actions, and no fancy tools.
Start Tracking
You can start today and it doesn’t have to be restrictive or overwhelming. Take inventory of what you do on a daily basis, think about the symptoms or anything health related that you want to begin to manage. What are your goals? Choose 1-3, don’t look at it like a total health overhaul ( even if that is what’s needed) it’s more sustainable to go step by step. Look at what you eat in a day, how is your sleep, how are you managing your stress, are you moving everyday? The answers will look different for everyone and that’s okay. You can find actions and methods that fit into your lifestyle and routine.
